Professor Maurice Stucke participated in the New York State Bar Association’s 2020 Annual Antitrust Symposium, “Reassessing the Consumer Welfare Model in the Age of Technology” held at the Harvard Club in New York City. Maurice played the role of the DOJ prosecutor challenging a merger between a dominant social network and dominant online dating platform under the federal antitrust laws. Marshall Steinbaum of the University of Utah served as the DOJ outside economist, Michael Weiner of Dechert defended the merging parties, Catherine Tucker of MIT served as the defendants’ expert economist, Judge Gene Pratter of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania presided over the closing arguments, and the audience served as the advisory jury.
